Your Little Voice
So, has everyone out there seen those commercials for this insurance company called Manulife? It is all about a lady, a regular-sized woman and her “mini-me”: a smaller, tinier, inner-insurance-voice-version. 🙂 Basically, it is a mini-self of her “bigger-self,” but this small voice comes with a BIG impact, telling her what to do, when to do it and how to do it.
And it’s always there! She can go to the grocery store, and the mini-voice version is there! She can go to the doctor’s, and the mini-voice is there! She can go to the dentist’s and, you guessed it, 🙂 the mini-voice is there!
And what I thought was so neat about this commercial’s concept (besides the cute music in the background and the fact that the mini-version can high-five the real lady when she makes an incredible insurance investment) is that, well, it kinda reflects a REAL truth of what goes on in our heads.
“What?!!?!” I hear you say. “Just WHAT is she talking about now!? I think she’s been cooped up at home too long with the COVID-19 isolation factor kicking in.” 🙂
Well, think about it. All day long we face and make decisions based on the “voices” inside our head: telling, yelling, guiding, deciding, connecting and correcting our options — and, well, those “voices” are just FULL of opinions!!
Yeah, sometimes when I wonder what I should do in “said situation,” I can
1) Clearly hear my mother’s voice saying what she thinks is the best option
2) Sometimes hear my totally bald yet totally good looking, I swear!!! 🙂 husband’s voice giving and guiding me along
3) Sometimes hear a friend’s voice, filled with fantastic advice and suggestions
4) Sometimes hear the media around me, blaring and sharing ITS thoughts and ideas.
And, well, of ALL these options, I really DO have to pick and CHOOSE one to be able to move along, don’t I???
The problem is, pretty much always, they don’t EVER ALL agree!! AND sometimes, they even change their ideas from day to day… hour to hour… minute to minute… moment to moment.
Uh-oh and a big Yikes!!! Now just what is a “wanting-to-please-and-keep-everyone-happy-kinda-girl” gonna DO??? Ugh, DECISION DILEMMA!!!
Well, what THIS one has learnt, and learnt the hard way, 🙂 is just this: it is TIME to CHOOSE to listen to a NEW voice, one that at first seems quieter and farther away, but the more I CHOSE to LOOK for and to LISTEN and to immediately OBEY, the more consistent, confident, caring and in-control I felt — and felt ALL day!!
And, no, it wasn’t listening to my own voice because, surprise surprise, I MAY have been proven wrong a time or two in my lifetime or, let’s be honest here, more than twice… today. 🙂
I sure began to see, well, better said, READ, that true happiness (aka peace, confidence, clarity) “comes to those who choose to obey the Lord” and His voice first and foremost in life (Luke 11:28, a personal favourite)! 🙂
What a super simple, super satisfying, super solution that, well, takes a few “superstar” choices:
1) To really begin to think about whose “little voice” I was choosing to let be the loudest and listen to the longest
2) If it ISN’T God’s?? Well then, I say I was TOTALLY missing out on the “best insurance plan” possible in life.
And so, it IS time to review, time to renew, time to re-CHOOSE WHOSE VOICE I will listen to.
Passing on the “Little Voice Challenge and Review” onto YOU… TODAY!!

Verses to peek and poke at (because it is always better to listen to GOD’S words over MINE)!! :):)
- Why can’t I always trust my OWN brain?? (Proverbs 16:2, 16:25)
- Why listen and obey GOD’s VOICE first? (Proverbs 16:20)
AND “BLESSED are those who LISTEN to me, watching DAILY at my doors, waiting at my doorway for those who find ME, find LIFE and receive FAVOUR from the LORD” (Proverbs 8:34 and 35).
