Social Distance Dating
Well, I was out walking with my family the other afternoon, when I noticed another pair of people coming up closer along the opposite side of the street. And as I was squinting to see WHO it was — Cranbrook is a pretty small place, and around our local Idlewild Lake, you often see a familiar face — my son said he knew the “man” in question: a student from the local high school, walking alongside a young lady from the same grade.
And as we got closer, I could easily see how they were acting toward each other: shyly smiling, sneaking peeks and sharing smiles, and I just “knew” this was a dating couple, blooming in young love in the spring air.
Ah yes, so cute, so sweet and… SO WHAT??!!? LOL!! Yup, people have been falling in love for years, I know, but what made this couple stand out so much to me was the fact that they were staying and standing 6 FEET apart. Oh yes, I thought, this is a perfect picture of “social distance dating.” (Talk about ADAPTABILITY!!)
And it got me thinking that even though there is a crisis going on, just like those students who can’t keep from falling IN love, that God’s LOVE can’t be kept from falling ON us! Yup, God’s WORD is just full of His faithful promises, commands, works and ways. But one that hit home the other day was Psalm 118, a whole chapter devoted to the deep, long-lasting PERMANENT PRESENCE of God’s LOVE, and how it “endures forever.” Whoa, that is one small sentence, but one big concept.
I think it can be challenging to always see that legit LOVE when things feel tough and trying or are hard and heavy, but if I CHOOSE to seek love, well, it will surface and shine and be present in ways I may never have thought of before!
I’m sure those students never imagined 6 months ago that dating would involve staying 6 feet apart, but I just love how they adapted to what is happening and managed to find something truly good, in a way that no crisis, chaos or COVID could kill: LOVE. And that, my friends, is God’s best blessing for us. His love will endure for real… for truth… forever.
AND best of all, you don’t have to stay 6 feet away from Him, ever! So go ahead!! DAILY make a date with the “best man” you ever could: HE is always there, HE will always care, HE always shares what your heart needs most. So, I double DARE you to CHOOSE to make this day the best day, all based on His enduring love.
BE Bold, BE Brave, BE Beautiful Women of God.

P.S. I am not kidding when I say “make a DATE with GOD.” I totally changed my approach to daily devotions from something I “endured” to something I ENJOYED by creating a physical setup that gets my SOUL excited to spend time with HIM.
Literally, I get up (do NOT check my phone!), make THE BEST cup of coffee I can (extra cream and brown sugar… yum), sit in the comfiest chair with my favourite fuzzy blanket, have the light dimmed just right and the blind pulled up so I can see out… And so, there I sit, sip and let GOD’S WORD SOAK into my SOUL — one “special and spoiled” moment of my morning, making the rest of my DAY the BEST it can be!
HAVE fun and get creative with a TIME and SPACE that’s unique for HIM and YOU!!
“God’s LOVE can’t be kept from falling ON us! “. Yes! Articulates so well God’s amazing gift to us which “surfaces and shines” on ALL who choose to seek it …
This post led me on a delicious rabbit trail to Psalm 118 and beyond, and yes, His Love fell on me this morning 😊.
