Protein bars really DO pack a punch!
Good morning, you guys!
Well, I don’t know about you, but with so many women chatting about carbs, keto and cleanses, there might be more than a few out there who are more than a bit familiar with the wonderful concept of the wonderful tasting …
Protein bar!! LOL!
And, yes, I do love them too.
I am not a cleanser. I eat a lot of carbs, and I don’t really know what the keto diet means. But I do mean business when I get a chance to buy my most favourite type of protein bars — ever.
You get them from Costco. They come in a variety of flavours (like, how does peanut butter, chocolate fudge, cookies and cream, or cookie dough sound to you, hmm??) 🙂 And best of all, this variety doesn’t have a ton of extra salt in them or really too much fat. But what they do have, and what I LOVE the most, are these hunks and chunks of …
Chocolate!
YES. 🙂
I want to thank the man — OK, it was likely a lady LOL! — who realized that when you put something so sweet and tasty right in the middle of a pile of protein, well, just about anyone will want to eat it. And will pay money for it. And will tell other people about it. And so, what a great marketing gimmick. 😉 🙂 But best of all, you actually DO get to eat a ton of good-for-you PROTEIN with each bite, which was the WHOLE point, right??
Well … that kinda depends on HOW you eat it.
Need an explanation?? LOL!
OK, confession time. I just MAY know someone who BUYS these bars (there are 20 in a box), opens each one, PICKS OUT ALL OF THE CHOCOLATE, wraps up the rest and, well, puts it back for “another time.” Only to grab another bar and repeat the cycle until all the bars are gone and the next box “needs” to be opened … honestly.
And you wanna know WHY this person does this? (But I bet even more so, you really want to know WHO this person is. LOL!)
Well, I will give you BOTH answers:
- The reason for that approach is because the chocolate is so much more “pleasing to the palate” than the protein.
- The person who does this is … ME!
Literally. LOL!
Yes, I laugh, and really, so do all my friends, and my family thinks I am crazy. (“Why not just BUY a chocolate bar, skip the protein and eat that straight up?!?”)
Totally fair question. And I think here is why — I “FEEL” better when I am eating the chocolate from a HEALTHY protein bar. (Hmm, anyone else smell some self-rationalization here??) 🙂 But also, the chocolate just straight up tastes WAY better than the protein! And really, what is the harm in that?
Well, after doing this with 40 bars in 4 days the other week, 🙂 I will tell you:
- In the short term, I began to feel kinda crappy and pretty bloated once the sugar high wore off.
- In the long term, I was totally missing out on the power from the more valuable protein to build my (fairly scrawny) 😉 🙂 muscles up.
So, as interesting as it is to imagine me eating 40 protein bars worth of chocolate, 🙂 just WHY bring this up?
Because it has become the BEST analogy in my head, and may make sense to yours, of how we sometimes wanna “pick and choose” which TRUTHS to USE from the BIBLE.
Like, it is pretty simple for me to take and eat the sweet little “bits and pieces” of truth that I really like and easily apply THOSE to my life.
But when I do that, just like me missing the BEST PART and WHOLE POINT of the BAR, I will miss out on the edifying-and-will-build-me-up-and-give-me-solid-strength-for-the-long-run PROFIT PUNCH.
Even when it “feels” like this part brings a short-term “punch” to what I “feel” or “want,” GOD KNOWS it is BEST … for … my … SOUL.
And so, even though I will likely always eat the chocolate out of all the protein bars before I finish the box … (sorry, family) 🙂
I HAVE learnt the VALUE of eating ALL OF GOD’S WORD, regardless of the first flavour it FEELS like to my tongue. ALL of it is GOOD for me. And maybe even more true is how much better the “less tasty” bits turn out to be.
“Heaven and Earth shall pass away, but MY WORDS shall never pass away….” (Luke 21:33)
Thank you, LORD, for providing TRUTHS in your WHOLE BOOK — to truly pack a spiritual punch.
Now time to go and pack my lunch. Thanks for your time today, ladies! Hope you get to enjoy the WHOLE truth HE has to share … today!
Carol 🙂
